As you drive your local freeway, take a look in your rearview mirror and discover a beautiful car coming your way. Upon closer inspection, you find that what you see is not a normal car, but the driver took the time to fully customize the look and functions of the car! It looks funky, sounds loud, and you probably think the car is polluting the environment. Think again Most car tuners these days modify their cars for three main reasons: 1) for aesthetic reasons, 2) for performance reasons, and 3) to make the cars more fuel efficient. This article describes the latter.
Most people love to modify their cars to improve performance and handling. By tuning your vehicle, you can tailor your vehicle to suit your expectations and your driving style. Modified cars are becoming popular these days not only to get good performance, but also to be efficient and to maximize gas mileage. There are some modifications that you can make to your car to increase the fuel efficiency of your car, and these modifications are „do-it-yourself“ type.
Pump over tires:
OK, this isn’t actually an auto modification, it’s a job. Making sure your tires are properly inflated can increase your miles per gallon (MPG) dramatically. In fact, the US Department of Energy states that „for every 1 pound per square inch (PSI) of pressure drop, you can expect fuel economy to drop to 0.4%.“
If you want mileage gains, keep tire pressures above recommended psi levels. At higher tire pressure, the tire bulges in the middle of the tread and creates a smaller, thinner contact area with the road. In theory, this should mean less rolling resistance and more mileage.
Aerodynamic BodyKits – Aeromodding:
To significantly reduce the power required to drive on the road, the airflow at the rear of the vehicle must be smoothed to reduce drag. Aeromodding is a term used to change the shape of your car using the principles of aerodynamics to improve fuel economy. To do this, you’ll need to tweak the rear of your car by either buying a lock set or making a kit yourself.
Body kits are the most common Aeromod method of reducing vehicle drag while enhancing the overall aesthetics of your car to give it that designer look. Almost all aspects of a car’s external appearance can be changed using body kits. They can be separate parts or whole packages for a complete overhaul. Front bumpers increase the downward force of the vehicle to keep it on the ground at high speeds. Low front bumpers also give the car a custom look that turns heads and adds value to the car. A combination of lightweight, lightweight front and rear bumpers and side skirts is a great way to improve a car’s aerodynamics. By reducing the amount of air, that gets to the underside of the vehicle, much unnecessary drag can be avoided. The advantages of aeromodding are free horsepower, free speed, free emission reduction, and free fuel.
